How to Care for Your Lace Front Wig

How to Apply a Lace Front Wig
Whether you’re heading out in a shake & go number or a custom-styled showstopper, how you apply your wig makes all the difference. Done right, it looks seamless, feels secure, and lasts all night — no sliding, no frizz, no drama. Here’s how we recommend putting it on like a pro:
1. Trim the Lace
Before your first wear, you’ll need to trim the excess lace at the front. Use a small, sharp pair of scissors and follow the natural curve of your hairline, leaving a soft arc of lace around 1.5cm to 2.5cm wide. This gives you flexibility for blending, without risking lift or peeling at the edges. Go slow, breathe deep — and if you’re unsure, we can help.
2. Prep Your Hair Properly
Under every great wig is a solid foundation. Section your natural hair into flat plaits or pin curls close to the scalp — the goal is a smooth base with no bulky lumps. This isn’t just about comfort — it also gives bobby pins something to grip, so your lace front stays locked in place all night long.
3. Apply the Wig Gently (No Flipping!)Here’s where most people go wrong. Never flip your wig upside down and throw it on like a hoodie. That’s the fastest way to ruin the style, especially if it’s already been set. Instead, lower the wig gently from above, aligning the lace front to sit just over your natural hairline.
4. Secure the Wig Like a Pro.Every lace front wig from Little Shop of Horrors comes with built-in combs — slide them through your wig cap and into your plaits or anchor points. Then use bobby pins (discreetly placed in the fibres) to lock everything down. Don’t be shy with the pins. Use as many as you need — especially around the nape and ears — to ensure it won’t budge during your grand entrance.
5. Use Spirit Gum for Seamless Edges. Want extra staying power and a flawless blend? Dot spirit gum at the temples, wait until it goes tacky, then press the lace into place with a strip of stocking or soft cloth. This melts the lace into your skin without sticky fingers — and helps the lace melt into your hairline beautifully.
6. Final Touches & Hairspray,Once the wig is sitting perfectly, gently comb it into shape and spray with a strong-hold hairspray. No tugging, no brushing out set styles — just a light tease or lift if needed. And remember: a styled wig should be fluffed, not fought.

How to Wash Your Wig
You’ll usually get a few wears between washes… depending on how wild the night got. If there’s sweat, hairspray, stage lights or dancing involved, it’s probably time for a refresh.
Soak your lace front wig in cold to lukewarm water (never hot, it can damage the heat-set style). Add a little washing powder or gentle shampoo. If there’s heavy buildup, leave it to soak, then gently agitate to loosen the residue.
Rinse with a splash of fabric softener, then again with clean water. This keeps synthetic fibres soft, manageable and smelling amazing.
Hang the wig by the nape to air dry. Once dry, use a wide-tooth comb to style gently. Avoid brushes, they can stretch or snap fibres and ruin your set.
A little care goes a long way, treat your wig with respect and it’ll keep stealing scenes every time.
